A postdoctoral fellowship, or postdoc, is academic and research apprenticeship position for people who have earned a doctorate (PhD). Postdocs are typically short-term research/academic positions that can last 1–3 years. They are a transition between the student experience and a full-time professional role. Postdoc are one step below assistant professor’s position and their roles and responsibilities are similar to assistant professors.
